The Mary E. Wilson Scholarship Fund
The Mary E. Wilson scholarship fund is an endowed fund managed by the College and supported by the club. One or more students
from the East Bay receive financial support through the fund each year.
The fund was established in 1949 and is named for Mary Elizabeth Wilson, Class of 1892 (ML 1896, University of California).
In recognition of her work in girls' education, she was granted the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters by Smith in
1931.
Mary Wilson was for many years the owner and principal of the Anna Head School for Girls in Berkeley, which eventually
merged with the Josiah Royce school to become the Head-Royce School of today. While at Smith she was the president of the
Senior Class, and lived in Hatfield house.
The market value of the fund as of December 2007 was $534,505, generating an estimated scholarship of $23,420 for the 2006-07
school year.
All dues received by the club in excess of expenses are added to the fund. The club also sponsors fund-raising programs
to generate additional revenue for the fund. Direct donations (tax deductible), are also welcome.
