2003-04 notes

Club Activities Log 2003-04

Reunions came and went--several East Bay alums made the voyage back to Northampton for days of nostalgia and (re)meeting friends.
Smith alums (and one current Smithie!), family, and friends bundled up to watch the Oakland A's vs. Cincinnati Reds for a surprisingly exciting and high-scoring game on Wednesday, June 9th. Thanks again to Lynne for organizing the event.

Book club met on Wednesday, June 23rd to discuss Play it as it Lays by Joan Didion at Kate Funk's house. Thanks, Kate, for hosting!

We had a great hike and BBQ potluck on Sunday May 16th! Alums from Smith, Penn, Columbia, Harvard, plus friends, family, and dogs trudged up and down the sometimes-steep Rim Trail Loop around the Lafayette reservoir, then relaxed in the luxury of the Girtler's patio, eating pasta salads and chatting around the grill. Many thanks to Andrea for suggesting the idea and hosting the afternoon!
Thanks to Lynne for mailing us our tickets to the baseball game!

Book club met on April 14th for an interesting discussion about Lolita.

EBSC gets involved in the community! Read all about our event with Women's Initiative for Self-Employment last Sunday. See the Community involvement page.

Promoting Community involvement. Added a new page to this site containing information about our event on April 4th aimed at getting us on the road to a greater community presence!

Club members, look for a newsletter in your mailbox in the next couple of weeks. The board met and has some exciting plans for activities this year, from ball games to theater to commuity service. If you're not a member, it's never too late to join! See .
The Ivy Alliance event at the San Francisco Symphony on Saturday 2/21 sold out! See Ivy Alliance for more details.

Happy lunar new year!
The Ivy Alliance is coordinating an evening at the San Francisco Symphony on Saturday, February 21.
Book club will meet next on February 19.

Happy December! Book club met last night and had a good chat about two books written by women and weren't appreciated until after the fact (and were shunned or put down at the time).

Happy Thanksgiving! Book club meets December 3! See the Event calendar for other activities going on in the area... and the state!

Book club had a lively discussion of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre... see the Book club page for next month's plan!

The annual potluck held in Berkeley on 9/28 was, as usual, a pleasant and delicious affair in a lovely setting. We formally voted in Sherrill Lavagnino '84 as our new club president and Mary Stapleton as our treasurer/membership coordinator. Many thanks to Gretta Mitchell for her home, Eleanor Clark and Kay Shen for organizing the potluck, and Lynne Withey for helping everything come together for the past three years!
The board is delighted to welcome Nancy Spaeth as secretary and is still looking for others interested in helping with admissions/recruitment, planning events, and producing the newsletter and website.
The bookclub met last month at the Claremont Hotel and enjoyed interesting discussion and ponderings about Jean Rhys' Wide Sargasso Sea. Although perhaps in reverse order, the club is reading Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre for next time... see the Book club page for details.
